It’s The Economy, Stupid!

Neither McCain or Obama have the faintest idea on how to fix the economy. They “hope” for a miracle and the fact that the US electorate is stupid and will fall again for the usual platitudes and false promises.

Congress of which both gentlemen are members of, sat on its behind for 35 years from the first oil embargo and did nothing. They are too busy either getting sweetheart deals like Senator Dodd from the Country-Wide crooks that ruined the lives of millions of Americans, or making passes in airport bathrooms, and getting away with it.

Here’s a sensible plan to fix the economy that works:

1. Remove the Ethanol subsidy of 51 cents/gallon that you , the taxpayer is paying to enrich the Ethanol lobby (Mr Daschle & Co.) which shamelessly provide financial support to Mr. Obama’s campaign. This would instantly lower the gas prices by 5 to 10 cents/gallon at the pump.

2. Remove the 52 cents/gallon import duty on the Ethanol from Brazil; this would immediately lower the gas prices by another 5 to 10 cents at the pump.

3. Release 1 million barrels a day from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve; this would instantly lower the price of crude by $5 to $10/barrel or more

4. Remove the ban on the use of the additive MTBE for gasoline blending until 2025, and provide immunity to manufacturers from liability litigation. This increases instantly the US gasoline supply by another 5 to 10 volume %, resulting in another 10 to 20 cents/gallon price drop.

5. Give every family a $5000 tax credit to buy a hybrid car manufactured in the US – not with imported parts. This puts to work immediately – Manhattan project like - tens of thousands of US workers to build them.

6. Give every family a $10,000 tax credit to buy an all electric car manufactured in the US – not with imported parts. This puts to work immediately other tens of thousands of US workers to build them, and as a bonus, no greenhouse gas emissions!.

7. Start nuclear power plant construction to feed the all electric cars. Again, this puts to work immediately other tens of thousands of US workers to build them.

8. Invest a billion in R&D to build cheap, affordable, reliable and simple electric solar panels; again as a bonus, no greenhouse gas emissions!

This requires a person of vision in the White House; unfortunately, the “change you can believe in” will not come from these two politicians.

"I AM NOT A CROOK"

From Nixon's lips to your ear!

It seems that the current Democratic candidate put another foot in his mouth: Mr. Johnson, the person he put in charge of his VP-vetting committee just resigned because of improper (criminal?) loans he received from Country-wide through favoritism, while you and me have a hard time making ends meet...

Look at all the people around him: Jeremiah Wright (America-bashing racist), Tom Daschle (lobbyist and author of the taxpayer supported Ethanol boondoggle), Rezzo (a convicted jailbird), and now, Johnson...Tell me who your friends are, so I can know you...How stupid can we be in this country?

2008 US Politics: Where are we headed?

We all know what the issues are:

The economy, meaning good jobs, not flipping burgers
Affordable health care, not paying $2000/day for hospital stays
Affordable energy, without going bankrupt by filling your gas tank
The war in Irak, draining our resources and killing our young
Illegal immigration, where the middle class support pays for overcrowded schools, hospitals, welfare, and other resources
Standards of Living, once the envy of the world, now going down the toilet
Corrupt Congress, robbing and destroying the middle class

The 2008 Presidential Candidates

Democrats have a brilliant demagogue, mesmerizing the adulatory masses (reminds one of the German rallies of 30's), but thin on experience, making empty promises, and with dangerous associations with racists, antisemites, and America-haters. His trusted advisers: lobbyists like Tom Daschle, the architect of screwing the American people with a 51cents/gallon US taxpayer subsidy for Ethanol (that you and I pay for), and a 52cents/gallon tariff to prevent cheaper Ethanol from Brazil...

Republicans have a nice former POW as a candidate, but unfortunately almost senile, living in the La-La land: we'll WIN the war, and magically we'll fix the economy by keeping the Bush tax cuts.

They won't "feel your pain" because both of these people have not set foot in a supermarket - won't know the cost of a pound of bread, or stand in line at the gas pump. So, the middle class - us stupid - will continue to be screwed...

Our "Free" Press

And our free press, the golden news media...a bunch of incompetent, selfimportant nobodys with intellectual pretensions, have not been doing a job that a free press should be doing:

  • Not questioning the lies behind the famous WMD or the nonexistent link between Al-Qaeda and Irak (I guess they were afraid of not appearing or being labelled unpatriotic)
  • Giving a free pass to the Democratic front runner, the guy could do no wrong
  • The vicious attacks against Hillary for the smallest mistakes, like a bunch of hyenas

Edward R. Murrow must be turning in his grave!

Our Congress

Ahhh...our congress...where else can you become a multimillionaire at taxpayer expense, waste billions (yes, billions) of taxpayers money with "bridges to nowhere "and similar "pork", and get away with it (why aren't these people thrown in jail?), and very conveniently, go from the chair of a congressional oversight committee of an (pharmaceutical) industry to become a multimillionaire lobbyist for that industry?

How much does it cost to join the club? Today, the rates are in the millions (see the New York City mayoralty or NJ senatorial camapaign cost: 30 to 60 mils/apiece)

Energy (Independence, Green, Renewable, etc)

Today we use close to 21 million barrels of oil a day (a big sea of oil). Where does it come from? About half from US, the rest is imported from Canada (the bulk of it), Mexico, and Venezuala. Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern sources provide a minuscule amount (see the US DOE EIA site for the statistics).

So, we want independence from Canada or Mexico?

As far as greenhouse gases or GHG (carbon dioxide mostly), we are saddled through congressional corruption and stupidity with the renewable fuels standards (RFS), basically corn-based Ethanol, that Tom Daschle helped pass in a quid pro quo with other senators before his constituents threw him out (but now, heee's baaack..as trusted adviser to the Democratic contender). Of course, we have to worry about the price of foodstuff going up, but not Congress (visit their cafeteria for steak at a discount, all at taxpayer expense).

What's the solution?

Immediately, repeal RFS Ethanol mandate, the subsidy and the import duty; this instantly lowers the price now, not in years..

Longer term:

  • Drill for oil in the US-are we superior beings to others in other countries that drill for oil both on and offshore? There is plenty of oil around in the US, but we need the willpower to do that.
  • Nuclear power: the future is in electric car (no burning fossil fuel=no greenhouse gases); but you need to plug the car in an electric oulet to charge batteries. Coal-powered plants are dirty because burning coal produces the most amount of GHG...and there is no proven practical technology to sequester it...
  • Windmills, etc. are minuscule; even if we use every square foot in the US, we'll produce less than 20% of our daily consumption

Arent renewable fuels (Ethanol and BioDiesel) wonderful? This is wishful thinking based on voodo science by a bunch of ecoterrorists...as documented in recent reports by a bunch of reserch teams in leading US universities (see summary in Science February 2008 issue); the ecoterrorists would have us go the "good old days", living in communion with nature, by the candles...no cars, refrigerators, TV, etc....worse than the Roman Empire

To be continued....
